What part do parents play in LIGHTHOUSE?

  • LIGHTHOUSE requires its members to work a half-day in the classroom every week (every other week for kindergarten) for each child enrolled in Cooperative.
  • We expect all of our parents to participate on two field trips.
  • Each member has a job/committee to work on through out the year to enrich the classroom or holds a board position.
  • The funding for the extras like field trips, guest speakers, technology and the arts come from a suggested parent donation of $15.00 a month for each child.
  • We also have our fundraisers, including an annual auction, as well as receive matching donation funds from employers.
  • Parents are asked to participate in Explorations. Parents lead small groups in exploring tie-ins with curriculum topics.

I work during the day.  Now what?

We have an option available which we call Flex-Time. Parents who are not able to meet their 2-1/2 hours per week in the classrom may request this option. Approval is dependent on the needs of the teacher.

As a Flex-time parent, you will be assigned tasks by the teacher or the Board.  You record the amount of time you spend on the tasks and submit the times sheets to your project supervisor for approval.  Applications for Flex-Time are accepted in September and January with regular reviews.

Flex-time appicaltions for the first half of the 2006 - 2007 school year are due September 10.
