Everett School District Announcement:
The LIGHTHOUSE leadership has met regularly with the Jefferson leadership and district officials in order to focus on the future of LIGHTHOUSE Elementary Cooperative. LIGHTHOUSE leadership has requested a five-year plan with the Everett School District in order to promote stability, unity and security for the Cooperative. Jefferson's principal announced at the April 2006 board meeting that the Everett School District intends to have Jefferson be the permanent home for LIGHTHOUSE for the foreseeable future. Jefferson is scheduled to be remodeled in the 2009/10 school year. The Everett School District has assured LIGHTHOUSE leadership that the remodel will include the consideration of the Cooperative's classrooms.
Commonly asked questions:
Why is LIGHTHOUSE Elementary Cooperative not able to have two kindergarten classrooms?
Will we be able to grow in the near future to more than one class per grade level?
Jefferson Elementary is promoting an All-day kindergarten classroom. If they are able to fill this class, there will not be an available classroom for a second LIGHTHOUSE Elementary Cooperative kindergarten class. There is also space constrictions for the upper grade classrooms which would not allow for two kindergarten classes to move up into first grade. Therefore, LIGHTHOUSE Elementary Cooperative will remain at 6 classrooms for the foreseeable future.
Will Lighthouse move to another location in order to allow for growth in the future?
The population in the Everett School District continues to grow and classroom space is at a premium. There is not space currently nor is it projected that there will be space in the district that would allow LIGHTHOUSE Elementary Cooperative to grow to more than 6 classrooms.
Will LIGHTHOUSE Elementary Cooperative be able to have a middle school in the future?
Until recently, LIGHTHOUSE Elementary Cooperative (formerly known as COMPASS) did not have solid upper grade numbers. The Cooperative currently has a wait list for lower grade levels and our upper grade classes are now full. We need to continue our solid numbers and create a wait list for upper grades in order to show stability. At this time, there is not an available school that could maintain a K-8 program.
