Mrs. McGuire | First & Second Grade
Mrs. McGuire is a Washingtonian - born and raised. She is married with two grown sons, 2 wonderful daughter in laws and 5 grandchildren. She has a teaching degree from Western Washington University (with endorsements in Reading and Social Studies) and a Masters from City University . She has taught in the Everett School District since 1986. Most of that time she taught first grade but spent one year as a district reading specialist and has looped (first then second) for the past several years. She joined the coop the first year they had a first grade class and has enjoyed the experience ever since.

For many years she belonged to the National Foxfire Teachers Network where she worked with other teachers defining and refining the process of providing a hands on, community based education while maintaining the academic integrity of the learners. She was coordinator of the Washington State branch of Foxfire teachers for 3 years. She was also one of their national trainers and as such she trained teachers in California , Georgia , Washington and Florida and edited the Foxfire training manual.

In 1990 Mrs. McGuire had the privilege of being invited to present some of her research at the IMTEC Conference (International Movement Toward Educational Change) held at Oxford University in England. At the conference She had the opportunity to share ideas about education with teachers, administrators, and government officials from all over the world. "It was my first time to really travel and for a small town person it was very exciting! I felt like Cinderella - I even lost an ear ring while dining at a castle (it's a long story but ask me sometime and I will tell the whole thing)."
